The Global Chess League (GCL), a joint effort of Tech Mahindra and FIDE, has announced that Season 4 would be held in India, a country where chess is not only played but also lived, watched, and celebrated like never before.

In recent seasons, India has offered full venues, electrifying fan zones, and a rise in digital involvement that has transformed how chess engages with spectators. What was previously private and personal is now quick, immersive, and shared by millions. The Global Chess League has already overhauled the game structure, including franchise teams, mixed-gender lineups, and rapid-fire matches.

With a new generation of grandmasters on the rise, world championships within grasp, and unprecedented fan turnout, India has emerged as one of the most powerful forces dictating the game’s future. A country long known for its athletic zeal is now embracing chess in a whole new way.

Gourav Rakshit, Commissioner, Tech Mahindra Global Chess League, said, “The Global Chess League has played a pivotal role in transforming chess into a more dynamic and spectator-friendly sport. India’s passion for the game and its rapidly growing chess ecosystem make it a natural destination for the league. We look forward to another exciting season that brings together the world’s best players and a global fanbase.”

Season 4 will once again feature the world’s top players in a team-based structure that combines elite competition with high-intensity narrative.
