Fresh from being named captain of India’s T20I side, Shreyas Iyer has been unveiled as the newest super coach for cricket technology platform Kabuni, strengthening the company’s ambition to combine elite cricket expertise with artificial intelligence-driven player development.

The appointment comes at a significant moment in Iyer’s career, with the Indian batter set to lead the national team in the upcoming white-ball tours of Ireland and England. His addition provides Kabuni with one of the most influential active cricketers in the game as the platform continues to expand its footprint across grassroots and youth cricket.

Iyer joins an elite group of Kabuni super coaches that includes former India captain Sourav Ganguly, South African great AB de Villiers and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson. Together, the quartet will play a central role in supporting the platform’s mission to make world-class coaching and performance insights more accessible to aspiring cricketers.

Kabuni leverages artificial intelligence, biomechanics and advanced motion-analysis technology to provide players with personalised feedback, helping identify technical improvements and accelerate development pathways. The company believes technology can help bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by delivering elite-level insights to players regardless of geography or access to traditional coaching structures.

As part of the partnership, Iyer will contribute to talent identification initiatives, mentoring programmes and digital coaching experiences aimed at nurturing the next generation of cricket talent.

The announcement also coincides with the launch of Kabuni’s nationwide youth programme, “Want to Play for a Legend?”, which is open to players aged 12 to 16. The competition will utilise Kabuni’s assessment technology to identify promising young cricketers, with top performers earning opportunities to compete in teams associated with some of the sport’s biggest names.

Commenting on the partnership, Iyer said, “The depth of talent in Indian cricket is currently unprecedented. What’s missing isn’t ability – it’s access to the kind of feedback that tells you exactly what to work on. The margins between where you are and where you want to be are narrow – and that’s exactly what Kabuni is about. Giving young players the tools to close that gap faster than I could in my early years.”

For Kabuni, securing the newly appointed India T20I captain represents a major commercial and strategic endorsement as the company looks to position itself at the intersection of sports technology, athlete development and grassroots cricket participation.
