A high-altitude, high-stakes repeat of the 2025 IPL Final awaits Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 61 of the 2026 season at the beautiful HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
After a blistering start to their 2026 season with six victories in their first seven games, PBKS have endured a disastrous freefall, losing five straight games to fall to fourth position. Skipper Shreyas Iyer is under enormous pressure to galvanise a badly deflated unit. The silver lining comes from youthful Cooper Connolly (377+ runs) and Prabhsimran Singh (439 runs), who have offered solidity and intent up top. However, their main problem is a leaking bowling department; star left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh is having a terrible season, allowing an economy rate of more over ten in most games. PBKS will need Arshdeep and experienced spinner Yuzvendra Chahal to establish instant rhythm on a pitch with post-rain under-surface moisture, or they risk being eliminated from the playoffs altogether.
The reigning champions are playing like league leaders, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 16 points and riding high on a strong run of six wins in their past seven games. Despite Phil Salt’s protracted absence, Rajat Patidar’s team have scarcely sweated, lately chasing down 193 against KKR thanks to a brilliant Virat Kohli century (105). Kohli leads their charge with 387 runs this season and has an excellent record against Punjab. RCB’s most powerful weapon, however, has been their clinical death bowling. Current Purple Cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar (22 wickets), Josh Hazlewood, and Rasikh Dar have all delivered dangerous yorkers.
Head-to-Head:
The history between PBKS and RCB is the most intense and tightly contested rivalry in IPL history. Across 37 matches, RCB have a thin edge with 19 triumphs to Punjab’s 18. While Punjab had the historical advantage for many years, the balance of power flipped radically during the 2025 season. The animosity reached a boiling point when the two sides met in the IPL 2025 Final in Ahmedabad, when RCB held their nerve and defeated Punjab by six runs to win their first IPL title.
