The post IPL 2026 MI vs LSG: Rohit-Rickelton onslaught dismantle LSG in record-breaking 229 chase appeared first on SportsMint Media.
In the 47th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off their highest successful run-chase in IPL history, hunting down 229 at the Wankhede Stadium to beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets.
The MI bowlers played a game of two halves. After being thrashed for 90 runs in the powerplay, they recovered magnificently via Corbin Bosch (2/20), who dismissed both Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran in a single over. While Jasprit Bumrah (0/45) had a rare off-day with three no-balls, the spin combo of AM Ghazanfar and Raghu Sharma made crucial breakthroughs to stall LSG’s progress. MI gave in only 22 runs in the final three overs, a death-bowling clinic that eventually determined whether they would chase 230 or 250.
MI’s chase was highlighted by a record-breaking opening performance. Rohit Sharma (84) returned triumphantly from injury, while Ryan Rickelton (83) maintained his scorching form, stitching a 143-run opening partnership in only 10.5 overs. Their unrelenting assault on LSG’s pace attack enabled Mumbai to keep the required rate far above 12 per over without breaking a sweat. Despite a slight middle-order slip in which Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were dismissed cheaply, Naman Dhir (23*) and Will Jacks (10*) ensured the chase was completed with 8 balls remaining.
LSG’s batting unit finally came together, scoring a huge 228/5. Pooran was the star, hitting 63 off 21 balls (8 sixes) to score his maiden fifty of the season. He was strongly helped by Marsh (44) as they took advantage of Wankhede’s short boundaries. However, the squad saw a huge mid-innings collapse, dropping from 123/1 to 160/5. Although Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) kept the ship afloat with an undefeated 68-run stand, their failure to find the boundary in the last overs left them about 15 runs short of a genuinely safe total.
The Rohit-Rickelton attack stunned the LSG bowlers, who failed to make a breakthrough until the eleventh over. Mohammad Shami (1/53) and Avesh Khan (0/56) were especially expensive as they failed to find the appropriate length on a flat surface. The sole bright spot was Manimaran Siddharth (2/47), who briefly ignited a comeback by dismissing both Rohit and Tilak Varma.
With this win, MI now have six points from 10 games.
Scorecard:
Mumbai Indians: 228/5, Overs 20, Nicholas Pooran 63, Corbin Bosch 2/20
Lucknow Super Giants: 229/4, Overs 18.4, Rohit Sharma 84, Manimaran Siddharth 2/47
